The Sisters of St. Casimir honored their 2015 Jubilarians on August 15 with a Mass celebrated in the SSC motherhouse chapel by the Most Rev. John R. Manz, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, and many concelebrants. The Sisters and their guests enjoyed a banquet reception after the liturgy. Marking 60 years of religious profession are Sister Grace Ann Kalafut, Sister M. Dolorine Lopez, Sister Wanda Marie Kamza, Sister Bernadette Marie Janus, and Sister Rita Marie Kerdock.
The Sister Jubilarians have ministered across the country, mainly in the area of education. Each has served many years in the Chicago area and is currently active in various ministries. Sister Dolorine taught at St. George (Bridgeport) and was principal at Providence of God and Our Lady of Vilna-St. Paul. She currently ministers at Holy Cross Hospital.
Sister Bernadette Marie also served as principal of Our Lady of Vilna-St. Paul and taught at Nativity BVM. She served the congregation many years as Superior of the Motherhouse and currently ministers as Coordinator for a group of Sisters of St. Casimir now living at Franciscan Village in Lemont, IL.
Sister Rita Marie’s history of education in the Chicago area includes Our Lady of Vilna-St. Paul, St. George (Bridgeport), St. Pius X (Stickney), Holy Cross School, and Nativity BVM. She currently is a tutor at Pope John Paul II School and Catalyst Maria Charter School.
Sister Wanda Marie’s ministry assignments included St. George (Bridgeport), Immaculate Conception (Brighton Park), St. Joseph (South Chicago), St. Norbert (Northbrook), and St. Bartholomew (Waukegan). She served as Superior at the Maria High School Convent.
Sister Grace Ann is a Chicago native who hails from St. Rita Parish. Her Chicago area education ministry includes teaching at Immaculate Conception (Brighton Park), and serving as principal at Our Lady of Vilna-St. Paul, Sts. Peter and Paul (West Pullman), and Maria High School. Sister Grace Ann also ministered in congregational leadership. Currently she is involved with vocation ministry and the ministry of accompaniment.
The Sisters of St. Casimir are headquartered in Chicago, IL, and have ministered in education, health care, and pastoral services across the United States for over 100 years. August 29, 2015, marks the 108th anniversary of the congregation’s founding. Currently the Sisters serve in Illinois and in Argentina.
